Andrey Santos' 'guarantee' at Man United he could not get from Chelsea

Manchester United have agreed a deal worth up to £50million with Chelsea to sign Andre Santos on a permanent deal, with the Brazilian set to undergo a medical on Thursday

Manchester United have been told why Andrey Santos is more guaranteed to get game time at Old Trafford compared to his time with Chelsea. United are close to completing the signing of the midfielder from the Londoners as they continue to strengthen their midfield options.

News emerged on Wednesday that United had agreed a £50million deal to sign Santos from Chelsea, who looks set to become the first signing since Michael Carrick became the club’s manager on a permanent basis.

The structure of the deal includes a £48million initial fee plus a further £2million in add-ons for the Brazil international, with United and Chelsea also agreeing a sell-on clause to be included in the transfer.

Santos has been given permission to travel to Manchester to undergo a medical today to become a United player, with the finishing touches on the move expected in due course.

Santos looks set to become the first signing for United this summer, with Atalanta star Ederson also expected to move to Old Trafford after a £38.8million package was agreed earlier this in the transfer window.

With Santos looking likely to become a United player in the near future, the midfielder is set to leave Chelsea, who he featured 43 times for last term across all competitions.

However, former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes that the 22-year-old is likely to get more game time once he moves to United following the departure of Casemiro.

“Finances have no doubt come into play with both clubs. The fee definitely suits where both clubs are operating at the minute,” Cole told Paddy Power.

“He’s a very, very good player with massive promise. The unfortunate thing for Andrey is that the two positions he can play for Chelsea are taken by [Moises] Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes.

“He’s probably behind Romeo Lavia in the pecking order when he’s fit too. So it’s been very difficult for him to break in, but he’s been brilliant whenever he did play. “I’m not surprised there were a few clubs in for him.

“Granted, he’s not a [Sandro] Tonali at the moment, but he could improve into it. He’ll definitely get more game time at Manchester United with Casemiro out of the picture now.

“I had hoped he’d stay at Chelsea but it’s a real good signing [for United].”
