Real Madrid have revealed they have had a âŹ150m (ÂŁ129.4m) bid for JuliĂĄn Alvarez rejected by city rivals AtlĂ©tico Madrid. The Argentina striker has scored 49 goals in 106 appearances for AtlĂ©tico since joining from Manchester City in 2024.
The 26-year-old, whose contract runs until 2030, reportedly wants to leave and has been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona. Florentino PĂ©rez vowed before his reelection as Realâs president to submit a club-record offer for an unnamed âgreat playerâ.
âReal Madrid CF announces that, following the meeting of the board of directors held today, it has made an offer of âŹ150m to Club AtlĂ©tico de Madrid for the federative rights of the player JuliĂĄn Alvarez,â the club said.
âAfter reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club AtlĂ©tico de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the playerâs release clause.â
AtlĂ©tico later posted a message on X which included: âYou may have confused politeness with gratitude, but just to be clear: we donât thank you for anything ⊠We are neither considering nor evaluating any offer for JuliĂĄn ⊠How could we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than FC Barcelona?â
Alvarez, who is preparing for Argentinaâs World Cup defence, scored 20 goals in 49 matches for AtlĂ©tico this season, with 10 coming in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Ălvaro Arbeloa has left Real Madrid, paving the way for JosĂ© Mourinho to return as head coach. Madrid said they were âdeeply gratefulâ to Arbeloa, âwho throughout his career at the club, from the time he joined our academy, has always demonstrated loyalty, commitment, and professionalism.â
Arbeloa took over the helm in January, replacing Xabi Alonso.
Benfica confirmed on Tuesday evening that Real Madrid have expressed their intention to hire manager Mourinho, stating that their head coach wants the move. âReal Madrid CF has formally expressed its intention to hire Jose Mourinho for âŹ15 million, and the manager has agreed to the move,â a Benfica statement read.
The Portuguese side also confirmed that former Fulham manager Marco Silva will replace Mourinho. Madrid are yet to make an official announcement on their next manager.
