Hello and welcome to this evening's live blog, where we will be bringing you live updates from Ashton Gate as Bristol City and Michael Skubala kick off their season against Walsall in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
It has been a few days since the Robins concluded their pre-season friendly schedule. Skubala's side ended their preparations for the new campaign with back-to-back draws against Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City last Saturday, with two different teams playing across the two fixtures.
Since then, City have further strengthened their ranks by signing Leyton Orient striker Dom Ballard. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Ashton Gate, becoming the eighth addition of the window so far, and could make his debut tonight.
Waiting for the Reds this evening are Lee Grant's Walsall. Like the Robins, the Saddlers' manager was appointed this summer - after the decision was taken to sack Mat Sadler back in March. Last term, tonight's opponents finished 13th in League Two, 13 points adrift of the play-off places.
Tonight will be Walsall's first visit to Ashton Gate since May 2015. On that occasion, City ran out 8-2 winners on the final day of the 2014/15 campaign, when they had already won both the League One and Johnstone's Paint Trophy titles. It was the Saddlers they beat in the final of the latter competition.
Skubala and his players will be keen to kick off a new era and new season with a win in front of the Robins faithful, after a summer of change in BS3.
