De Zerbi is preparing for his first game in charge of Spurs away at Sunderland on Sunday after his appointment on a five-year contract.

Marcattilio started working with De Zerbi in 2015 at Italian side Foggia and has been a part of his backroom staff since.

Marcello has worked closely with De Zerbi over the past three years during his time at Brighton and Marseille.

Spurs are 17th in the Premier League, just one point outside of the relegation zone and without a top-flight win in 2026.

They face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday and De Zerbi’s first home game in charge will be against his former club Brighton on April 18.

Speaking for the first time as Spurs boss last Thursday, De Zerbi underlined his commitment to the club by stating that he will remain in charge next season “no matter what” as Spurs face up to the prospect of playing in the second division for the first time in nearly 50 years.

”I signed a five-year contract because for me, it is a big challenge, and I will be the coach of Tottenham next season, no matter what,” De Zerbi said, before adding that he had full belief in his players to turn around the club’s fortunes.

”I know everything, I know it is a tough moment for Tottenham, but I think we have the right qualities to come out from this moment.

”I believe in the players, I think we have to remember who we are and who the players are, because we have very big players and we have to work on their confidence and their qualities.”
