Just a couple of days ago, it appeared clear that Atletico Madrid had jumped ahead of Inter Milan in the race to sign Cuti Romero. But now there might be a new player in the Cuti sweepstakes⊠and itâs Barcelona?
Football blog Doble Amarillo is now suggesting that, after the loan of Ronald Araujo to Liverpool yesterday, Barcelona are now ready to enter the fray to try to purchase Romero. Did someone say bidding war? I think thatâs what I heard.
The implication is that Romero would be one of three significant moves for Barca before the close of the transfer window, including buying Julian Alvarez from Atleti and the acquisition of Rodri from Manchester City. Now, before we get too far down this road I should mention that this rumor is not exactly coming from David Ornstein. Thereâs also a certain irony that a story about Romero is coming out in a blog called âDouble Yellow,â I know, I know. Suffice it to say that itâs not the kind of source we would normally rely on here at Carty Free Towers. That said, itâs an interesting idea, itâs kinda-sorta-plausible, and weâre nearing the end of the transfer window and things can get kinda wacky.
So is this happening? Buddy, hell if I know. There are also rumors that Arsenal are making a push to sign Romero and I havenât written on that either because lol seriously come on like THATâS gonna happen without the stupidest of stupid bids.
But if Barca ARE interested, that opens up the possibility that theyâll try and outbid Atletico. I doubt weâll get the money we all seem to think weâre due for Romero, but Barca certainly knows how to search the couch cushions if they want a player badly enough.
Itâs silly season and this transfer saga clearly hasnât gotten stupid enough, so sure â letâs throw Barca into the mix as well. Iâm all for it. Letâs get weird.
