Harvey Elliott continues to train on his own ahead of his opportunity to impress new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola during the upcoming pre-season.
Liverpoolâs squad, those not at the World Cup, will reconvene for pre-season early next month, with Elliott to be among the first wave after his move to Aston Villa collapsed.
The 23-year-old played only nine times last season, meaning Villaâs obligation to buy was never triggered, thus an opportunity now awaits back at Anfield under Iraola.
Elliott resumed training back on Merseyside earlier in June, and his work with shooting specialist Scott Chickelday continued despite the UK experiencing an unforgiving heatwave this week.
Chickelday has coached Elliott since he was a youngster at QPRâs academy, and the two continued their work this week in suffocating temperatures up to 34 degrees.
They focused on right-foot finishing and position specific finishing, aiming to have Elliott in the required shape to make an impression from the first day of Liverpool training.
Iraola has already pledged to consider every current player as a ânew signing,â and the 23-year-old is expected to be given a chance during the tour of the United States.
âI think Iraolaâs going to want to have a look at Harvey Elliott. From what Iâve heard, heâs willing to give him a chance on the tour and then weâll go from there,â journalist Lewis Steele said on Anfield Indexâs Media Matters podcast.
There remains the possibility that Elliott still finds a new home this summer, but Liverpool will know they are unlikely to match the ÂŁ35 million deal they agreed with Villa last year.
He had even been touted as a possible makeweight in any deal for RB Leipzigâs Yan Diomande, but there are currently no signs of that being pursued after the clubâs first rejected bid.
Elliott last played a competitive game in March and has not completed 90 competitive minutes since the Under 21 Euro final one year ago.
