Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has called for a sense of “calm” at the team following its return to the top step of the podium.

Lewis Hamilton prevailed at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix as he sealed his first win since joining the Italian squad last year.

The seven-time benefitted from a well-timed virtual safety car, but nevertheless possessed rapid pace that had put Mercedes under considerable pressure prior to the intervention.

Ferrari's step forward in pace came at an event in which it introduced significant upgrades to its F1 car - but Vasseur insisted it is too early to draw conclusions over what it means for the coming rounds.

“Nothing changed today compared to last week,” Vasseur told media including RacingNews365.

“The result is different, the outcome of the race is different. The commitment of the guys in the garage in Maranello, from Lewis, from Charles, didn't change compared to last week.

“We have to stay calm with this. It's not that today everything is magic, and last week it was not.”

However, Vasseur asserted the result does not take away from the positive work undertaken by Ferrari to get back to winning ways.

“The collaboration, we are improving, but we know each other a bit more each day, and it's all a matter of details at the end of the day,” Vasseur said.

“One-tenth in Q1 you had six or seven cars, it means that it's sometimes small details make a huge difference in terms of position.

“You saw that track position is very important. As soon as you are not in clean air, you are struggling.

“I'm taking it as a mega good result, a mega positive result. It's a good reward for everybody, for Lewis, for the team in Maranello, for the team at the track.”
