Hundreds of pubs across England and Wales have announced they will open their doors for Englandâs early morning World Cup match against Mexico. Following a day of chaos, FIFA has now confirmed the match will kick off on Monday at 1am UK time as originally planned.
Plans were thrown into disarray when FIFA considered bringing the match forward by six hours due to thunderstorms. After five hours of confusion, and opposition from the English and Mexican FAs, the proposal was dropped.
As the last-16 knockout match will not finish until 3am at the earliest and businesses, schools, and the emergency services are preparing accordingly.

Further delays could result from FIFA safety protocols, which prompt an automatic 30-minute postponement if a lightning strike is recorded within an eight-mile radius of the stadium.
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of pubs opening on Monday morning are in England. But with many England fans living in Wales, some 21 pubs in the country have indicated they too will stay open.
Most are in North Wales. Across the region, only on Anglesey will all pubs be closing at usual times. A number of pubs are also opening in Chester for those who want to shoot across the border.
Pubgoers are advised to check before heading out as opening plans may be subject to change and staffing levels.
