JJ Gabriel has been sending a message to Michael Carrick this summer
JJ Gabriel has sent a clear message to Manchester United manager Michael Carrick by showing his dedication towards becoming a better player over the summer break.
Gabriel is considered one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the United academy in recent years. The promising teenager, who turns 16 in October, will be eligible to play Premier League football for the first time next term.
Having trained with the first team on a number of occasions, Gabriel had been unable to feature in the Premier League until now because of his age. League rules stipulate that all eligible players must have celebrated their 15th birthday on or before August 31 of any playing season.

Given Gabriel only turned 15 in October 2025, he was banned from featuring in the 2025/26 campaign. He will be available for selection for the first game of the season away at Hull City.
Now, with the 2026/27 season opener still two months away, Gabriel is already trying to get into Carrick’s good books by showing his willingness to put in the hard yards this summer. The teen sensation took to Instagram on Sunday to re-post a clip of himself hard at work during the offseason.
The montage in question shows Gabriel engaging in various strength and conditioning exercises and tests. His seriousness and dedication at such a young age will only impress those behind the scenes at United, showcasing an excellent mentality to go alongside his talent.
United manager Carrick will be without several senior players in July due to World Cup commitments. The first pre-season friendly will take place in Helsinki on July 18, with Wrexham the opposition, and Gabriel could be involved.
Players not travelling to the World Cup will be expected back in training even earlier than that and Gabriel will be among them. The teenager trained with the first team under Carrick and his predecessor Ruben Amorim and a senior debut isn't thought to be too far away.
Gabriel is already well-known for his online presence, with his father, Joe O'Cearuill, also sharing a number of videos recently, showing the teenager doing strength and speed work at the gym and on the training ground.
