Man Utd handed Aurelian Tchouameni transfer update after formal bid goes in

Manchester United are poised to gain clarity on Aurelien Tchouameni's situation at Real Madrid after Barcelona's initial bid for Rodri was rejected by Manchester City. Madrid had already begun their pursuit of the World Cup winner before Barca entered the race, and the Catalan club's move could now shape how Tchouameni's future unfolds.

Although Rodri has been offered a new contract, he has previously expressed an openness to returning to Spain. He now appears to favour a switch to Camp Nou over Jose Mourinho's side, and it's understood that City will reluctantly sanction his exit if they receive a fee that reflects his value. On Friday, Barcelona submitted an offer that fell well short of City's valuation. The Athletic reported that the bid was €45m (£38m) plus add‑ons, but the Blues are holding out for a figure exceeding £60million.

United, meanwhile, have long held Tchouameni in high regard, having declared their interest back in April. United carried out background checks on the 26‑year‑old months earlier and would pursue a deal if he became attainable. Madrid, however, have shown no willingness to part with him, with the midfielder agreeing terms on a new five‑year contract at the Bernabeu.

The lack of a formal announcement has only intensified speculation around his future. However, a transfer for the France international now appears improbable following the recent developments with Rodri.

Barca could now be poised to deliver United another transfer setback, arriving soon after their decision not to trigger the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently. Their unwillingness to pay £26m for Rashford following his successful loan spell last season meant United lost a crucial opportunity to generate essential funds.

United officials are still considering whether to proceed with a third midfield acquisition after investing £85m on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans last month. With Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo, Michael Carrick already possesses four senior midfielders vying for two positions.
