Manchester City have agreed personal terms with Elliot Anderson that would earn him about ÂŁ90m over five years in a club-record ÂŁ116m transfer from Nottingham Forest.
City agreed a fee for the 23-year-old on Thursday evening, leaving a medical to be completed and his contract to be signed before he is unveiled.
It is understood that an agreement has been struck on a contract worth upwards of ÂŁ300,000 per week. It includes bonuses that are straightforward to achieve, meaning he could net about ÂŁ90m in total.
The deal means Anderson is committed to staying at the Etihad Stadium until at least 2031 and City also hold an option to extend his deal by a further season.
Anderson has been away with England at the World Cup but can undergo his medical in the United States, as Thomas Tuchel has allowed players to complete transfers while away and has been assured that the record transfer will not be a distraction during the tournament.
Tuchel dismissed claims that Anderson would have a medical on the eve of facing Panama. âWe had no distraction and no medical before the match. All the focus was on his recovery and getting him available,â the England manager said.
âThe main topic is clearly the match tomorrow. We want to win the match, we want to win the group, and we need to have the right mindset.
âThe reality is that transfers are going on in world football when weâre playing, and big transfers take their time. So, we understand that things are going on behind the scenes, and we will facilitate that transfer.â
City will break the ÂŁ100m British-record fee they paid for Jack Grealish in 2021 after agreeing a cash-up-front deal with no bonuses to be paid to Forest. It will be the fourth most expensive transfer in history.
Talks have been ongoing between the two clubs for weeks and, as City have always been the clear front-runners, Evangelos Marinakis, the Forest owner, has been intent on securing the best deal.
