Sunderland continued their pre-season campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over RC Lens on Saturday, but earlier in the day an U21 side face their equivalents in a dramatic contest at the home of fifth-tier side CS Avion.
The young Black Cats fell to a 4-1 defeat, but context is key. RC Lens fielded a very strong side featuring a number of players who would be named on the bench for the senior side later in the day, with experienced right back Ruben Aguilar and winger Mohamed Seddik playing key roles late in the first half. Sunderland had two chances to level the scores from the penalty spot but couldn't convert, before the hosts scored two late goals against a tiring Sunderland side.
