The League Two side fell to a predictable loss in the first round of the Carabao Cup against visitors from two divisions above them at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday.
Paul Davis gives his verdict on events on a day when the home team didnât lack for application but were simply seen off by a better side.
Millers (4-3-3)
Ted Cann: 4
Likely to find his place under threat from a new arrival pretty soon. A ragged, unconvincing display, and fans didn't like what they saw. His kicking was awry and so was his handling. A man of his size should be more dominant.
Denzel Hall: 6
Steady. Stuck to his task on a tough day.
Emmanuel Adegboyega: 6
Started poorly but, to his credit, he sorted himself out and made a big improvement.
Sonny Aljofree: 6
Good to have the new signing on board. Looked flustered a couple of times in the face of quality opposition and was beaten at the back post for the fourth goal, but showed enough to suggest he'll be all right in League Two.
Ewan Otoo: 6
I like this lad. Worked hard, snapped into a tackle and used his size well.
Kian Spence: 6
Quiet at times as West Brom kept the ball for fun but also showed some flashes of real quality, particularly in the second half when the Millers did their best to take the game to superior opponents.
Ossama Ashley: 5
Has shone in League Two in the past and has been brought in to do a League Two job at New York. We can forget this game. He wasn't poor, just not great.
Jamie Jellis: 6
Another player I like. Gives his all and isn't lacking in skill or mobility. Rotherham's midfield was given a bit of a going-over but he was always 'at it' in both halves of the pitch.
Fabio Tavares: 6
Some encouraging signs. Quick legs and deft feet. Took his goal really well.
Paul Mullin: 6
Good to see him on the end of a couple of crosses and getting sharp, first-time efforts away. Vintage Mullin. Looked hungry, and that's important. The Millers could be in business if he's ready to give their cause his all.
Jili Buyabu: 6
The quietest of the loanee's three displays, but then it would be against this standard of opponent. Still drove forward and got in a few dangerous crosses.

Brandon Cover (for Ashley 56): 5
The way he covers the ground is always the best part of his game. Needs to do more with the ball.
Ar'Jany Martha (for Mullin 62): 5
No real impact from him.
Joe Rafferty (for Hall 77): NA
An experienced campaigner who slotted in with no fuss. Looks like he'll begin the League Two on the bench after losing out to Hall for this match.

Needs more minutes to make his mark.

"No disrespect, but Rotherham struggled to get near us at times. We're taking this competition seriously. I was very pleased.
"I thought we played some great stuff. I liked a lot of what I saw, but we were a bit complacent at times. My gripe is no clean sheet.
"I am really pleased with Jimmy-Jay Morgan, I still need to be on him. There are times where heâs daydreaming and he needs to be in the game all the time. But we can see his qualities and he is only going to get better."
