However, Roberto De Zerbi's side have yet to launch an official approach for the Netherlands international.
Gakpo scored seven goals and added five assists in 36 Premier League appearances last season.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old signed a new long-term deal at Anfield just 12 months ago after a positive 2024/25 campaign.

Liverpool's current preference is to keep hold of Gakpo unless a significant offer is made.
The Reds would also need to sign a replacement before even considering a sale.

talkSPORT understands Liverpool would point to the current inflated market if Spurs were to make a bid, using several recent deals to justify their valuation.
Gakpo update
With the north London club's interest persisting, talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs has provided an update on their pursuit of Gakpo.

Joining Hawksbee & Baker on Thursday, Jacobs explained: "Liverpoolâs preference is to keep (hold of Gakpo), that wonât change unless they add one if not two attack-minded players.
"Then possibly towards the middle or the end of the window, maybe not today, tomorrow, but by the time we get into mid-August and beyond, if Liverpool get what they need in the market, Cody Gakpoâs position could change a little bit.
"But, for now, itâs been described to me by sources as a âfoolâs errandâ to negotiate with Liverpool for Gakpo now because theyâre going to reject everything until such a point where they know one if not two players are going to come in.

"With Bradley Barcola being the top target and interest also in Ibrahim Mbaye amongst other players as well.
"And my sense is two would need to come in for Liverpool to change their stance, but Tottenham are serious about Cody Gakpo and that would in addition, according to my information, to Savinho, who Spurs are also working on.
"But before that one unlocks, itâs less about the finances and itâs more about Man City lining up a replacement."
Liverpool are expected to place an opening offer for Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola.

Although personal terms have not been agreed, the France international is keen on the move.
Savinho latest
talkSPORT understands fellow Spurs target Savinho has informed Manchester City of his desire to join the club this summer.
The forward previously wanted to complete the switch last summer when their interest first emerged.

However, any potential deal is dependant on the City board changing their current stance on a sale.
At present, they are not willing to part ways with Savinho, although the club could still look to sign another attacker.
Talks have been ongoing between City and Spurs throughout the summer.
