Transfer news LIVE: Bruno Guimaraes nears Arsenal move, Liverpool target PSG duo, Vinicius Jr latest

Guimaraes’ announcement as an Arsenal player is expected to come soon after he was given permission to travel to complete his £75m move

Bruno Guimaraes has received permission to travel to Arsenal and complete his ÂŁ75m move from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical at the Premier League champions within the coming days after both clubs agreed a fee with an announcement of his signing expected shortly afterwards.

The deal represents a key piece of business of Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal’s title defence - while Newcastle will be left to wave goodbye to another key player following the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.

Arsenal will now turn to continuing their pursuit of Guimaraes’ international team-mate Vinicius Jr, although the Gunners believe it is increasingly likely that he stays at Real Madrid, who have significantly upped their new contract offer to the Brazilian star.

Liverpool, meanwhile, want to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and have also lined up his teammate Ibrahim Mbaye in what could be a double swoop for Andoni Iraola’s side. The European champions may be willing to let them go with Maghnes Akliouche is set to join from Monaco.

Elsewhere, Manchester United want to sign a left-back with Lewis Hall reportedly now set on a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle are determined to stop the exodus and insist he is not for sale.

Liverpool to pursue both Mbaye and Barcola?

Liverpool’s links to Ibrahim Mbaye appeared to suggest a shift away from key target Bradley Barcola.

But Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport reports that the Reds would like both PSG wide players.

The two players could cost in excess of £200m combined, with Andoni Iraola looking to upgrade the right wing area after Mohamed Salah’s exit.

Could the Reds really pull off a sensational double swoop for two of PSG’s attackers?

Arteta pays tribute to Norgaard

"He played a tremendous role for us," Mikel Arteta said of the departing Christian Norgaard.

"When I brought him here I said that he could be our glue player. He has an incredible capacity to bring players together and keep the standards high.

"When he played, he had some really good moments as well. But I understand to fulfil that role for long periods is not easy.

"He had a massive opportunity with a manager and a club I know really well. I wish him all the best and thank you."

DONE DEAL! Norgaard completes move to Everton

It’s been in the offing for a while but it was confirmed last night that Christian Norgaard has completed his move from Arsenal to Everton.

The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Toffees in a ÂŁ7m deal on a two-year contract.

Norgaard said: "I felt I needed a change and to play a bigger football role.

"When I spoke to David Moyes and others at the club involved in the transfer, I heard about the whole project and I was very intrigued.

“Coming here just makes that feeling even stronger."

Arsenal believe Vinicius Jr will stay at Real Madrid

The Independent understands that Arsenal now feel it’s increasingly likely that Vinicus Jr stays at Real Madrid.

Real have significantly upped their new contract offer to the Brazilian star and it’s much closer to what the player wants.

The feeling on all sides is that he’s now far likelier to stay with Madrid than make the switch to the Premier League champions.

What next for Arsenal in the market?

Mikel Arteta called for Arsenal to be “ambitious” in the transfer window and agreeing a fee Bruno Guimaraes, the captain of a Newcastle side who had already sold first-team stars Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali and lost their manager Eddie Howe, certainly ticks that box.

The fee of ÂŁ75m is big, but the Gunners have done well to come away from Newcastle having spent much less than Manchester City did in signing Elliot Anderson (ÂŁ116m), or indeed Tottenham Hotspur for signing Tonali (ÂŁ100m). Of course, Guimaraes is slightly older in profile.

After missing out on the signing of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea, Arsenal still want to sign an attacker who can instantly improve the first team this summer and a defender to act as cover for the injured William Saliba.

Arsenal’s blockbuster pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr remains uncertain, and unlikely, even though the framework for personal terms has been agreed.

Why Arsenal had to sign Bruno Guimaraes – and how he fits into Mikel Arteta’s midfield

Arsenal have agreed to sign Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes for ÂŁ75m as the Premier League champions prepare to land one of their key transfer targets before the start of their title defence.

The one word that explains why Arsenal had to sign Bruno Guimaraes

The Brazilian is the king of midfield ‘duels’ – one of Mikel Arteta’s favourite buzzwords – but also brings his range of passing to increase the competition for places at the Premier League champions

Arsenal close in on Guimaraes with ÂŁ75m fee agreed

Arsenal’s move for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is finally nearing completion.

The Gunners are confident of finally singing the 28-year-old midfielder, whose future has been the subject of frenzied speculation for weeks ever since it emerged that he had indicated that he wanted to leave Tyneside for the Emirates Stadium.

Guimaraes reported for duty at Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga in Spain on Monday, just hours after Newcastle rejected an opening bid from Arsenal.

It now appears that significant progress has been made with the Premier League champions closing in on a cut-price ÂŁ75m deal which would see them finally capture a man they have long coveted.

The real reason Chelsea signed Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson’s move to Chelsea represents one of the more peculiar transfers of the summer. But dig a little deeper and the logic becomes at least more convincing. A player in the twilight of a glittering career is returning to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Awkward spells with Al-Ettifaq and Ajax were followed by a more productive and defined role in an excellent Brentford season last term.

The real reason Chelsea signed Jordan Henderson

The England international is a surprise signing for Chelsea but, as Jack Rathborn explains, Xabi Alonso could lean on the 36-year-old to help establish his ideas at an unstable club
